The Red Duck Smoky Michelada recipe – Normally a Michelada (cerveza preparada) is made with hot sauce, lime, and a light beer. Think bloody mary without being so heavy with tomato sauce. So the ketchup this is an interesting twist that seems to split the difference between them nicely. Oh, and Red Duck ladies.. I love the little RedDuck cocktail flag. Well done marketing and design team.
For salt rim:
- 3 tablespoons coarse Kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons celery salt
- 1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
To make salt rim, combine salt and spices in a small bowl. Rub the edge of a glass with lime and turn in salt mixture to coat.
For cocktail:
- 2 tablespoons Red Duck Smoky Ketchup
- Juice of 1 lime
- 4 dashes hot sauce
- Dark Mexican lager, such as Negro Modelo
- Lime wedge, for garnish
To make cocktail, fill the prepared glass with ice and combine Red Duck Smoky Ketchup in a small dish with lime juice and hot sauce. Thin mixture with a little bit of the beer, then pour into the prepared glass and top with the remaining beer.
If you’re looking for a hot sauce to use for those 4 dashes listed above, a good standby is Tapatio, and you can check out their michelada recipe too. Otherwise head over to the hot sauce section of Sauce Rank and get something truly unique.
